Citroën to Display Cactus Concept C4 Airflow 2L at The Paris Auto Show

Like Renault with its Eolab prototype, Citroën has prepared for the Paris Auto Show a concept Cactus C4 Airflow 2L whose development has focused primarily on energy efficiency.

As the name implies, the concept C4 Cactus Airflow 2L shows a consumption of 2 l / 100 km.  This impressive mileage was achieved by Citroën working to optimize a number key points;  Design that includes and air -inducting  front bumper, movable side deflectors, rims with flaps that close to become more aerodynamic at speed, giving an “air Curtain” system of air in the wheel wells, and a rear air extractor.

Work on reduced rolling resistance was accomplished with the use of narrow and tall (19-inch) tires, as well as losing 100 kg of vehicle weight compared to the series model C4 Cactus.  Aluminum and composite use in the underbody, use of carbon for the suspension springs, a “flag” back seat (a concept used in the original TPV 2CV prototypes of 1936), and a translucent polycarbonate panoramic roof all help in achieving an 865 kg unladen weight.

Powered by Hybrid Air technology the system utilizes of a 3-cylinder petrol unit, PureTech 82,  associated with a compressed air engine, (already presented at the Geneva Motor Show in 2013 in a C3 model) this time reworked to incorporate lighter moving parts and new polymer pads) enabling a reduction in fuel consumption of about 30%.

This concept C4 Cactus Airflow 2L will be officially unveiled on the Citroën stand at the Paris Motor Show in Paris on October 4.
