Frenchman On Rocket-Powered Bicycle Sets World Record, Smokes Ferrari In The Process

Ah the French…  Still setting record firsts in the automotive world.  This time by taking an ordinary bicycle and fitting a rocket to it.   François Gissy has hit a top speed of 333 km/h (207 mph) on it, smashing the previous record of 150 mph and dusting a Ferrari F430 Scuderia in the process.  Incredibly, he reached that speed in just 4.8 seconds!

The bike itself was built by Arnold Neracher and its rocket was fueled by a mix of hydrogen peroxide and compressed air.  It even has pedals, which Gissy used to ride up to the starting line.

Check out the video of the race.   (Click here.)   What a ride!
