Sébastien Loeb – King of Pike’s Peak

Sébastien Loeb, World Rally champ for Citroën from 2002 to 2012, demolished the standing record at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb on Sunday (June 30) in a Peugeot 208 T16 with a time of 8 minutes, 13.878 seconds.  The course is 20 km in length and rises to an altitude of 4300 meters.  He broke Hyundai driver Rhys Millen’s record by 1 minute, 33 seconds.

Millen, for his part, pushed his Hyundai PM580T racecar up the hill in just 9 minutes, 2.192 seconds, which would have been news, if not for Loeb in the Peugeot 208 T16 Pikes Peak.

The Peugeot produced an output of 875 hp.

“I felt really good in the car, and I pushed it hard from the start to the finish,” Loeb said. “I made no mistakes, and I felt the race was really good.  To drive a car like this and race up here (to the top) is what makes this special.  It’s amazing.”
