We love a Citroën challenge!

Citroënvie member Steve Claassen sent us this photo wondering we had seen this before?

The caption stated “Prototype Victor Bouffort garage jamin 3 wheels 1947 engine citroen 11 hp gull wing”.   We hadn’t seen it before, but we did some digging and came up up with the following:

It is a Bouffort JB (Jamin-Bouffort), a 3 wheeler designed by Victor-Albert Bouffort and built by Jamin Meaux between 1945 and 1950.  The caption saying it is the prototype certainly appears to be true.

Aviation inspired and Citroën Traction Avant 11 CV based with Citroën mechanics at the front of the vehicle, it was exceptionally streamlined with its long mudguards and aerodynamic body featuring gull-wing doors and seating for two, side by side.

It is widely assumed that only 3 were made, all slightly different.

  1. Il s’agit effectivement du prototype 3 roue de mon père qui aura les portes papillon une fois terminée.
On le voit à gauche sur la photo. Elle se trouve actuellement près de Tarbes.
This is indeed my father’s 3 wheel prototype which will have gullwing doors when completed.
We see it on the left in the photo. It is currently located near Tarbes.

  2. Built on a modified Citroën Traction Avant chassis, this very streamlined three-wheeler seems to have had gull-wing-type doors after Bugatti’s unrealized design and before Mercedes actually made them in quantity.
