Our annual Christmas party went virtual on Dec. 5, 2020 because of the Covid-19 pandemic. Where we would typically have met and socialized over a lovely brunch at a Toronto dinning establishment, this year we were forced to improvise while socially distancing. Our solution was to have an online meeting via Zoom where we invited members to login from home and join us in celebration.

The party meeting began at 11 AM with a welcome message and presentation from Citroën AutoClub Canada president George Dyke who delivered an update on the Club’s membership numbers, the officers elected at the Club’s planning meeting in November, and an announcement of the events that CAC has planned for 2021.

George also took the opportunity to introduce the Club’s 2020 Citroënvie Calendar, and present Citroën Autoclub Canada’s 2020 Golden Sphere “Philippe” Award to Don Jones from Dundas Ontario, for the extensive work he performed on his 1970 DS21. Don put on a new front end and also added air-conditioning. Congratulations Don!

And this year we created a new award for Club members who have found a Citroën barn find, or worked to preserve a Citroën from the fate of going to the crusher. We call it the The Dave Kane “All it Needs is a Clutch” Award in memory of Dave.

Dave was a legend in our Citroën community not only for his knowledge, but the number of Citroëns he amassed over the years, with the hope of one day getting around to restoring them. He had dozens! Unfortunately Dave passed away on December 25, 2019, at the age of 66. (You can read his In Memoriam here). The Dave Kane “All it Needs is a Clutch” Award will be given out annually and this year it was presented posthumously (in memory of Dave) to Crystal Kane, Dave’s eldest daughter.

One other thing we announced this year was that Award certificates have been made for past years winners and they will be sent to them, because they only get to keep the trophies for the year they have won. So now, they have a record of their achievement that stays with them.

Merry Christmas to all –  from Citroënvie!
