Citroën announced today at the Paris Motor Show the World Premiere of the C5 Aircross Concept embodying the brand’s vision for the future of mid-size SUVs.
Underpinned by the Stellantis STLA medium platform (also used on cars like the Peugeot 3008), the upcoming C5 Aircross will be available with a number of powertrain options, including petrol, hybrid and electric.
The C5 Aircross Concept is 15mm longer than the outgoing C5 Aircross and receives a wider track for more road presence. A notable exterior styling feature is a distinctive light setup. There are ‘Light Wings’ which include flush-mounted rear lights, touted to boost aerodynamic efficiency. Up front there is a new three-point lighting system
An extended overhang section is designed to help the C5 Aircross to cut through the air more effectively.
Citroën hasn’t released any further details surrounding the interior of the C5 Aircross but has said there will be space for five people inside and it will feature many ‘innovations’ with the whole cabin of the car taking on the look and feel of a lounge.
The production version of the C5 Aircross will be revealed in 2025 along with pricing.
The Citroën booth at the Paris Motor Show featured a six-metre-high tower stacked with 3 versions of the Ami highlighting a revamped look and showcasing versatility.
The four-year-old Ami (electric quadracycle) with 65,000 sold to date, has been given a fresh new look with a few exterior design nods to the original 2CV.
One new Ami in the tower was the ‘My Ami for All’, a specially for people who have lost the use of one or both of their lower limbs. It gives independence to those with reduced mobility by allowing them to access the vehicle, store their wheelchair and drive with ease.
Citroën also displayed the Ami Buggy Vision concept with strong hints that it may go into production next year. We’ve seen a buggy version of the Ami before but this one is themed around kite surfing. It’s open to the elements with no doors and the addition of a sunroof. For doors there are barrier bars incorporating a hook on each so that they can be fitted with a kite surfboard. The designers have also added a luggage compartment to store the kite’s sail.
The Ami Buggy Vision is outfitted with chunky tyres and black tinted wheel arch protectors inspired by the Oli concept. Tinted glass has been used in the headlamps turning them yellow, reminiscent of the 2CV and an LED lightbar is fitted on top to illuminate a night-time beach party.
Inside, Citroën has added its Advanced Comfort seats with orange highlights and the same colour is also used on the dashboard. The phrase “Like No One” is emblazoned across the dashboard, aptly summarizing the distinctive and very Citroën overall look.
