15 spectacular Citroëns to be auctioned at Retromobile 2023

Between Artcurial and RM/Sothebys — 15 Citroëns will be auctioned including 4 DS Cabriolet models by Henri Chapron.

On Feb 1, 2023, RM/Sothebys will be selling this pristine 1965 DS 21 Cabriolet Chapron (Lot # 155) with an estimated price between 180,000 € – 220,000 € [$ US].

Chassis 4350064, delivered to the coachbuilder on October 11, 1965, receiving order number 8910. The completed car was subsequently registered in France on December 23, after being delivered new to Bordeaux. Finished in Royal Blue with “naturel” hide, this DS is offered in restored condition.

One of the first DS23 built. Registered in France on October 18, 1972. 3 owners. With the exception of the roof which has just been repainted, the car is in its original black paint color (AC 200 ME). Just over 56,000 km. A 23ie in this state of preservation is very difficult to find with the details and the sensations that only cars which have never been restored can provide.

This 2CV Sahara has been restored with various modifications to improve its operation, such as changing the electrical system from 6 to 12 volts. Originally sold in Switzerland, it has been on display in Sweden for 20 years at Örebro Automobil Affär AB. 169th example of the 694 Saharas produced.

1939 Rosengart LR539 Supertraction Cabriolet

On the blocks since the mid-1980s, this Rosengart Supertraction features a front end slightly different from the rest of the Rosengart series with a lower grille opening, rectangular lights under the headlamps, and a “Deluxe” badge under the bonnet. The car was painted a while ago, the upholstery had also been redone matching with the colours chosen for the bodywork. Under the hood, a more modern manufacturer’s plate has replaced the old one and the PVSC11 type engine bears the mention “renovated”. The dashboard bears a plaque commemorating the 1975 Vichy Concours d’Elegance, water temperature and oil pressure gauges as well as a car radio housed in the glove box.

Just 34 examples of the “Le Caddy” were produced by Chapron. This one was ordered by Schlotterbeck, the Citroën agent in Zurich, Switzerland. The chassis was delivered on October 23, 1962 and left the workshop on November 22. It was in the Musée automobile in Muriaux and then in 1997 taken to Oslo, Norway, by road ! Previously restored, the car was serviced and the interior re-done to the original configuration, with the exception of the hood which became black. It features a Continental Edison radio. The car is said to be in good working order.

Imported in 1977 to Sweden where it was kept in the south, at Simrishamn, it was sold in 1989 to a second Swedish owner and in 1998 was withdrawn from circulation as it was in a very decrepit condition. From 2016, the car underwent a comprehensive restoration by a Swedish SM specialist. It received a new “bare hull”, as Citroën offered it from unused stock after production had ceased. In agreement with the Swedish authorities (and even on their advice!), the owner transferred the identity of the original car to this structure, which therefore remains preserved. In addition, all the body panels (except the rear hatch) are said to be “NOS” (new old stock), and the car has been repainted in Vert des Tropiques AC 525, which matches the original colour. All the mechanicals have been completely redone and, to crown this magnificent achievement, the owner found a new original interior. It is rare to come across a Citroën SM in such an impeccable condition.

Henri Chapron order n°8528 and production n° 454. Pearl grey in colour with Bordeaux upholstery, it was intended for export and was delivered to Citroën on June 12, 1963 by the coachbuilder. Sold new in Mayenne and registered for the first time on July 5, 1963, in the name of Suzanne Bonneport, it remained with her until 1998! It was then acquired by a Dutch collector. In 1998, he restored the car, carried out by one of the Gé Bentvelsen brothers who worked all his life at Citroën, then in the restoration company of Bart Holland. Then, in 2019 and 2020, a bodywork restoration was carried out by François Vendelbos while retaining the beautifully patinated original wine-red leather interior.

This car is one of the rare Citroën BX 4TC (4-wheel drive Turbo Competition) entirely in original condition. Its current owner acquired it in 1988 from a Citroën employee and used it occasionally, especially between the Paris region and his country house in the Orleans area. The car only 37,115 km since new. As evidenced by both the service and user logbooks, this car has been carefully taken care of and it shows. The original paint remains beautiful and the car has all the featured special equipment. The original interior is well preserved and the engine bay (with its original engine) still has its factory stickers.

This 2CV has covered only 124 km since leaving the factory in Mangualde, Portugal in July 1990. First registration was issued on March 28, 1991 in Stuttgart, Germany, under the number S-KX 7828 in the name of a buyer residing in that city. It is one of the very last ones produced and in near new condition.

This GSA has only 3,434 km from new! It was delivered new in Orléans through Garage France & Delaroche, to its first owner Mr. B. who kept it until his death in 2015. It then belonged to two successive collectors. In practically new condition this Jade Green colour GSA features all the stickers and plates it had on delivery, and also sports the optional fog lamps.

On sale from 1996, the Xantia Activa marked a real revolution in terms of handling, with a Hydractive controlled suspension (introduced on the XM) combined with an active roll-regulation system and a V6 3L ES9 engine developing almost 200bhp. The example on offer corresponds to phase 2 which appeared from December 1997 and whose level of equipment approached the Exclusive version. Original paint and interior is superb condition. The car now has just under 80,000 km from new, which is verified by a file of invoices and old technical inspections.

Delivered new on April 29, 1992 by the Citroën dealership in Dijon this BX has just 36,500 km. Equipped with conditioning and electric windows. Vincent Crescia, a renouned Citroën restorer purchased this BX 16S in the Artcurial Romagny sale knowing how rare such an example was, but his joy would only last a few weeks, as his car registration application was denied by Swiss authorities on the basis of absence of a catalytic converter. Consequently this 16S is now even more beautiful than ever in “like new” condition.

Delivered new on April 29, 1992 by the Citroën dealership in Dijon this BX has just 36,500 km. Equipped with conditioning and electric windows.
