Our Citroën Autoclub Canada summer outings always prove to be popular, especially when we visit the Niagara region of Southern Ontario.  This year we once again made the choice to visit a few wineries and drive some of the fabulous back roads near Pelham.   The weather co-operated on Saturday August 8 to give us a perfect driving day; overcast and cool.

We met in Oakville just south of the QEW off Trafalgar Rd and took the scenic Lakeshore route to Hamilton where we headed across town to the upper ridge of the Niagara Escarpment, taking the Ridge Road to the winery area near Lincoln.

Our first stop was at Tawse Winery were we hoped to meet up with Senen and Andrija Racki who experienced the beginning of a clutch slave cylinder failure on their Peugeot 204 cabrio at the start of the event.  Living nearby, they made a detour back to home for a quick repair, but as it turned out the job proved to be a bit longer task than anticipated and they were out for day.  Scratch one Peugeot, but all the Cits were running OK!

We moved on to do some driving and stop for a mid-afternoon snack in Pelham, before returning to the local twisty roads and taking in another winery, Flatrock Estates, just west of Balls Falls.  By then we just had enough time to make it back to Burlington for our dinner reservations at The Raging Olive restaurant.  They serve wonderful food with a Mediterranean flair and it proved to be the perfect way to cap off another wonderful day outing.

Over the years we have a made a concerted effort to find the best roads in Southern Ontario and it’s heartening to see that many of our Club members come out to events like Niagara to enjoy some real driving.
