Greg Long took a break from doing mechanicals last night and decided to explore a little further into the interior of his wonderfully preserved 1960 DS19.
He pulled out the astray for the first time and noticed a ‘little gold something’ in there. Lo and behold it was a tiny box of unused matches! As the pictures below show, the ashtray looks to have never been used… which would explain the fact that the little box had been hiding in there for 55 years. Greg, being the preservationist he his, put the matchbox back in its rightful place.
Following up on his good fortune finding the hidden matchbox, Greg decided to finally peek under the terry towel seat covers. Were they installed after the seats were dirty/ripped or before? Gingerly peeling off the driver’s side first he immediately noticed that the lining of the cover had disintegrated and there was a thin red dust on everything… but the seats themselves looked perfect!
Greg thinks it is the rarest of the helanca interiors. They could still use a cleaning as they have a sticky feeling to them. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what he should use to clean them?
