USA Photo Locations for the Xsara Picasso

The Xsara Picasso debuted as a 2000 model and featured plenty of Picasso-style artwork in its brochures and television commercials.

Citroën made a deal with Pablo Picasso’s son, Claude, to use his family’s name and his father’s famous signature on its cars. The agreement initiated a lengthy legal battle with other Picasso family members, which Claude Picasso ultimately won. Pablo Picasso was known to have signed his name on a Citroën DS.

Although Citroën departed from the USA over 30 years ago, many of the photos for the European-market 2006 Xsara Picasso brochures were shot in Southern California. Citroën had an affinity for the southwestern rural and urban landscapes of the USA.

Chris Dubuque looked further into the picture above and said;

I think it is a fake cityscape, made up by cut-and-pasting a bunch random buildings together.

The easiest landmark to find was the art deco tower in the background. I googled several things such as  “art deco skyscrapers in southern california” and a few variations of wording like that. It didnt take me long to find a an absolutely beautiful art deco building called the “Wiltern Theater” on Wilshire Boulevard in LA. I tracked down the same angle, but the rest of the cityscape is clearly wrong. If you stare at it a while, it looks a bit like a Photoshop creation in other areas as well.

This photo shows the Xsara Picasso on the Judge Harry Pregerson Interchange, a five-level stack interchange of the I-105 and I-110 freeways near the Athens and Watts communities of Los Angeles.

The interchange also contains Metro C Line tracks, direct HOV and Metro ExpressLanes connectors, the Harbor Transitway, and the Harbor Freeway station for the C Line and the Transitway, all of which contribute to the towering, imposing structure for which the interchange is known.

The interchange is over 130 feet (40 m) high. Opened in 1993, it is named after Harry Pregerson, a longtime federal judge who presided over the lawsuit concerning the I-105 freeway’s construction. This was also the location where the bus-jump scene in “Speed” was filmed.
