The Lake Mirror Classic in Lakeland Florida, held on October 20 & 21, 2023, is like 6 events on one. There is a traditional judged Concours down around Lake Mirror, an Amphicar and Wooden Boat show on the lake and a 500+ car show and hot-rod rendezvous on the beautiful downtown wooded city streets of Lakeland. There’s also a Boat Race on nearby Lake Hollingsworth on the same weekend. Non culture abounds with a lot of Frank Lloyd Wright architecture at Florida Southern College within walking distance.
The Citroën/French Car Community was invited by the organizers of the Lake Mirror Classic to display their cars. They created a street venue where owners can commune and show their cars downtown with other groupings while the Concours is held by the lake on Saturday the 21st. The event has gained a lot of traction in the last few years as an authentic Concours “baby Amelia” in a beautiful setting.
Seven Citroëns registered for the downtown Lakeland car show. The group came prepared with a grill, picnic and plenty of wine. Everything culminated in a nice dinner at Texas Cattle Company the same evening for the folks who stayed a couple nights and didn’t just drive-in for the day.
Longest same-day drive award was a tie between Lionel Guilbert in his CX and Sam Scribner in his 2CV. Patty Schwarze caravaned with the Morgans from Deland the prior day which reinforced her love of air-cooled Citroëns when a Morgan overheated.
We all had a great time at the Lake Mirror Classic & Concours and are planning to get together again next year!
That is a Series 2 CX Prestige in the pictures! Great group of Citroen folks. Well maintained automobiles.
