In Memoriam — Alan Norris — Nov. 19, 1941 – May 26, 2026

We are saddened to report that Citroënvie member Alan Norris has passed away. Alan was the proud owner of a 1984 2CV done in a white “France 3” tribute theme. He realized a year ago that health issues were forcing him to sell the car. He listed it on Citroënvie.

Alan Michael Norris was born in Chicago, IL on November 19, 1941 to Hyman and Fanny Norris.  Alan continued to grow up in Chicago and attended the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.  In 1962, he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Math Education.  Two years later in 1964, Alan earned his Master’s Degree in math.

After graduating with his Master’s Degree, Alan answered an ad to teach math at the U.S. Naval Academy and was employed there for two years.  In 1966, Alan moved to Indianapolis to teach at IUPUI.  While living in Indianapolis, Alan attended an event for singles at Indianapolis Hebrew Congregation where he met his future wife, Sherrie Seidman.  The two of them married on June 14th, 1969.  Alan and Sherrie were made for one another, each with their own unique quirks that were perfectly matched for the other.

Alan was a public school teacher for 46 years.  He taught math at Indianapolis Public Schools and finished his teaching career at Arlington High School, retiring in 2012.  After retirement, Alan volunteered with Sherrie at St. Vincent Hospital until her passing in 2015.  He also volunteered as a math tutor after retirement to keep himself busy.

Alan was a car enthusiast, but an enthusiast of very specific types of cars.  At the age of 22, Alan had never learned to drive as the need had not yet presented itself living in Chicago.  When he decided to research the kind of car he wanted, he began a lifelong love of the Saab.  So focused on the type of car, he had not yet even learned to drive when he purchased it.  Alan also grew to love other unique European vehicles, including the Citroën.

Alan had many diverse passions throughout his life.  He was avid world traveler for his entire life; before during and after his life with Sherrie.  One of Alan’s most memorable trips and his last one was to Easter Island.  So enamored by that trip, Alan purchased many replicas of the Moai stone statues.  He loved them so much that he purchased multiple replicas for his front yard, his living room and for his desk next to his laptop where he spent many hours of his retirement.

Alan was preceded in death by his parents, Hyman and Fanny Norris, his sister-in-law Elyse Adams, his nephew Sam Adams and his beloved wife of 45 years, Sherrie.  He is survived by his brother Marshall (Sharry) Norris, brothers-in-law; G. Douglas Seidman (Holly), Terry Adams (Mimi), nieces; Amy Norris, Melissa Adams, Jill Adams and Robyn (Scott) Bercot, nephew; Danny Norris.  He also survived by many great nieces and nephews with whom he had special relationships, mostly involving movies and/or game playing.

In his continued effort to give back, Alan chose to donate his body to the Indiana University School of Medicine to help advance medical education.  In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Alan’s name to The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) or Planned Parenthood.  A celebration of life is being held for Alan on Thursday, July 9th from 5:00 pm-7:00 pm at George’s Neighborhood Grill, 6935 Lake Plaza Dr. B12, Indianapolis, IN 46220.
