1972 Citroën SM, 5-speed

Preservation-class SM with very low documented mileage, extremely original throughout with transplanted European lighting, Michelin XWX tires, updates completed.

I bought this SM from the original owner’s son who owned it after his father passed. He said his father coveted it, only drove it on nice days and trailered it to car shows. He said his dad spent way more time staring at it in his garage than driving it hence the 17,000 miles from new.

When I found it in 2014 I bought it immediately. It was taken off the road with a bad fuel pump so I bought it not running. I took the risk the mileage showing was correct and that there weren’t other issues. Luckily, it was just the fuel pump; and the paperwork supported the mileage.

I’ve driven it about 2,000 wonderful miles. I changed the North American front-end (which goes with the car), changed the exhaust valves to stainless steel, put on new Michelin XWX tires, cleaned out the gas tank, added Jerry Hathaway headers, fixed the electric windows, new spheres, new AC.

She drives like new and other than one rip in the rear seat (where they all rip!) the interior is its gorgeous tabac leather.

And I believe it’s also all original paint (see paint meter readings). Astonishing 2 minute hydraulic cycle time on all original hydraulic components!

If you’re into original cars, there just can’t be many left as honest and well-loved as this example.

    1. Ha! I said, “extremely original”… and the original parts come with the car so anyone can put them back if they wanted. Greg
