Finally, – SM values are finally on the rise! This 1973 5-speed sold for $90K + 10% buyers premium at the Gooding & Company Auction at Pebble Beach. And that’s USD! A rather staggering sum considering that it was a US spec version that had the generally non-preferred 4 North American headlights (though they were under lexan european type covers), the arguably less attractive US rear license plate lights and US side markers. Nor did it have the original type rear exhaust pipe tips, or original factory spec Michelin XWX 205/70 VR 15 tires. Granted the engine bay was tidy and interior leather correct and in excellent condition, but the steering wheel had been wrapped, presumably to cover up wear or sun damage to the original padded rim.
To command nearly $100K US proves the point we have making for the last few years; that SM’s are not just an incredible driving experience, but a good investment whose value will increase if you have been fortunate enough to find a good one at “yesterday’s” prices.
