The Swiss are notorious for their accuracy and precision, not just with their watches but in their daily lives. Whether it’s trains, finance or their society overall, they are model students in these disciplines. So it comes as shock to us that at this year’s annual auction by the Swiss firm Oldtimer Galerie Toffen, they have listed a Citroën SM stating that total mileage on the car is a mere 3,232 when it is obvious by looking at the photos of the car that the mods made in the engine bay and the overall condition of the car indicate that it must have traveled at least 100,000 miles and perhaps more!
On October 17, more than 100 collector cars will cross the block at Oldtimer Galerie Toffen’s annual autumn sale.
Classicdriver.com featured the SM in article they did about the auction, saying; “It’s worth travelling to Switzerland for this collector car auction.”
At least the estimated price of the SM seems to be reasonable, but for an auction company to pass this SM off as an incredibly low mileage example does little to substantiate their credibility.
1971 Citroën SM – No reserve
Mileage: 5,200 km / 3,232 mi.
Est: $ 10,980 – $ 16,471
Description:
This rare Citroën SM was bought by the vendor in 2011, put in his classic car collection and was never driven. The car with its carburetted six cylinder engine and 5-speed manual gearbox is equipped with a stainless steel exhaust system. The engine runs and the coachwork, together with the interior, is in good condition. This exotic SM is the ideal candidate for a restoration or could, with reasonable effort, be recommissioned as is. The last Swiss Veteran MOT was completed in September 2010.

They are also trying to flog a 1974 D-Super. It looks to be rather well worn sun-baked car (judging by the cooked steering wheel the condition of the engine bay) that has been refitted with new interior seats, but that’s about it. The price seems a tad high for a car needs some serious work to be brought up to show car level.
1974 Citroën D – 5
Mileage: 152,000 km / 94,449 mi.
Est: $ 19,765 – $ 24,158
Description:
This D Super 5 is a Swiss delivered example with a 5-speed gearbox. The coachwork is in average condition, and the interior is in good original condition, albeit showing signs of use to the front. The car is driveable and is the perfect candidate for a Citroën enthusiast willing to bring it back to its former glory. The last Veteran MOT was completed in May 2008.
