This 1970 Méhari (rare US spec model) has been restored slowly with care and pride. In 1996 it was bought in pieces from a Rhode Island guy. The 2 years slow restoration was based on reverse engineering, a lot of fun, and pleasure of trying.
All ABS body parts (faded red) were dismantled + minor repairs done w/ fiberglass + painted professionally (by me!) with a mini- roller — green / latex paint for exterior. The frame was in very good shape, but, anyway, received new coatings. The rivets (aluminum) were replaced with stainless steel screws/locking nuts. The old/destroyed front seats were replaced with a very good and comfy velvety fabric.
The tires (Cooper) are like brand new.
Everything works OK (due to Dave Burnham & Phil Caron). The engine (new – from Holland through Kenji @ FPS) is like brand new (after only 14k miles), but probably needs some TLC. The electrical system is in good shape; 123 electronic ignition, push button to start, enclosure for radio / CD player, easy access / fuel tank (new level sensor from FPS), new round lights at rear).
Brand new (never installed) sides & back covers from Club Cassis + 2 door frames + 2 middle posts.
Comes with 2 boxes with new/used parts + Haynes 2CV book & Cassis catalogues.
The car is registered & insured. Runs 2-3 times/week between May – October and is kept inside all year. Located in Newington, CT.
