Nouvelle Vague is a 2025 comedy drama film directed by Richard Linklater. Shot in the fashion of its title’s namesake, it is a charming retelling of one of cinema’s most storied debuts: Jean-Luc Godard’s “Breathless. (1960)”, one of the first feature films of the French New Wave of cinema.

In April 2025, Nouvelle Vague was selected to compete for the Palme d’Or at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, where it had its world premiere on 17 May 2025 and received a 11-minute standing ovation.

Following its Cannes premiere, Netflix bought U.S. distribution rights, paying $4 million for the 105 minute film after a heated bidding war, a sum believed to be the second highest ever paid for a domestic deal for a foreign language film only behind Emilia Pérez, also purchased at Cannes by Netflix.

Shot in black and white and starring Guillaume Marbeck as Jean-Luc Godard, Zoey Deutch as Jean Seberg, and Aubry Dullin as Jean-Paul Belmondo, a Citroën 2CV also plays a key role as the Deux Chevaux was often used as a camera car for filming in the 1960s.

It has been faithfully utilized as you can see in the movie trailer.

And bonus — there are other period classic cars in the film including a Traction Avant and an H Van.
