Burton has become the most notable way to transform a 2CV into a sportscar. By building your own fiberglass bodied Burton onto an existing 2CV, or buying a finished one from their factory in the Netherlands, you get a cool looking ride that is inspired by the lines of Bugatti’s, Delahaye’s, Morgan’s and Jaguar’s.
The first Burton was produced at the beginning of 2000 and at the end of that year the counter was already at 98 orders. Now, as Burton celebrates 25 years in business, there are over 1,400 Burtons made — and still counting!
To commemorate this milestone, they took a trip to Alpe d’Huez with two of them, including the 1,400th Burton ever built, for the Coup de Glace (ice race) organized by Méhari Club Cassis. The trip covered a total of 2,500 kilometers through various weather conditions. Of course, being die-hard open car enthusiasts – no roof!
Even after 25 years, they continue to innovate, testing the Burton Electric Prototype under the extreme conditions in Coup de Glace.
If you feel that this story is so far too chilling, check out this desert adventure video (in Dutch) when the very first Burton participated along with many others in Raid Morocco. (It has big No. 1 stickers on the sides.):
