It was announced by the Mayor of Aulnay-sous-Bois on Monday, September 21, 2024, that the city is launching a study for a major automobile museum that will house the contents of the now closed Citroën Conservatory.
In the company of Philippe Citroën, grandson of founder André Citroen, Mayor Bruno Beschizza stated that the Citroën-Peugeot-DS Conservatory collection will not be relocated as previously announced and will remain stored in Aulnay.
“We will work with all parties, public and private, to provide our city with a major automobile museum and bring this exceptional municipal and national heritage to life. A big thank you to the Citroën family for their presence this afternoon at the Vieux-Pays farm and their unwavering support for this great project.”
Co-incidentally the announcement was made just prior to Classic Driver paying homage to the Citroën Conservatory in an article containing 138 gorgeous photographs of the Conservatory and commentary from Xavier Crespin, who used to be the managing director of l’Aventure Peugeot Citroën DS, and Denis Huile, the current Heritage Manager of Citroën; https://www.classicdriver.com/en/article/cars/a-last-visit-citroen-conservatory-it-closes-its-doors
So, how will this come about with Bruno Beschizza’s push to have the collection, and hopefully all the archives remain in Aulnay? Loïc de la Roche, managing director of L’Aventure Peugeot Citroën DS (since Dec. 2023, succeeding Xavier Crespin) who now has the destiny of the collection in his hands has stated:
“There are plans to give access to the extraordinary cars from the Conservatory to a much wider public,”
Exactly where and how much will be retained for public access remains to be seen, but at least for now, it indicates a step forward.
