How Dik Bolger Got Reunited with his 2CV Artcar

There a few 2CVs with hippie induced paint jobs in the USA, but we had not heard of this one until now. Hagerty chose to bring it to light in this charming story told by Ronnie Schreiber.

After an introduction about various manufacturer models that have had hand-drawn, hand painted, high impact, vibrant paint treatments (like John Lennon’s Rolls Royce, George Harrison’s Mini Cooper S and Janis Joplin’s Porsche 356) Ronnie introduces us to Mike Mullen who appeared at the 2020 Eyes on Design show in Detroit with his 2CV sporting an incredibly detailed hippie paint job.

What follows is an account of Mike’s acquisition of the car and how he was able to trace it back to Dik Bolger who owned it in the 1970s in Minnesota when he and his brother Jack, along with a student at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, started painting it in a theme inspired by the art design of Peter Max.

The history that Mike uncovered about the 2CV and its reunite with Rik is a touching tale.
