We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our friend and founding member of the Ottawa Citroën Club, Allen Gravelle.
Allen passed away peacefully at The Peter D. Clarke Center the evening of September 30, with his son Roger by his side. Beloved husband of Carolyn Edey, father of Roger (Catherine) and Suzanne (Jeff Nethery) and brother of Greg (Lorraine), Jeffrey and his sister Jill. He was predeceased by brothers John and Keith. Grandfather of Connor, Colleen and Seamus (Roger’s children) and Samantha and Zachary (Sue and Jeff’s children).
Allen was a Station Attendant with Air Canada but his mind and heart was in Citroëns. He owned and drove them during their heyday in the North American market, and retained his last Citroën DS21 until (and even after) he stopped driving. Allen was well known in the North American Citroën community, and was a loyal attendee at the annual Citroen Rendezvous held each year in New England on Father’s Day weekend. Allen also attended several ICCCR world gatherings, including the 2002 event at Amherst in the USA.
Allen’s wealth of knowledge of the marque and the history of the community was appreciated by all. His large physical presence and his huge personality already have been missed by his friends and fellow Citroënists during the years of his illness.
A Memorial Service will be held in the chapel at Hope Cemetery on October 24 at 2 p.m. Donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Ottawa and Renfrew County.
