French coachbuilder Tissier made stretched versions of the Citroën CX in the 1980s known as Loadrunners. They were used as high-speed delivery vehicles to transport items such as newspapers across the European continent.
Two automotive enthusiasts from Ireland, Tomo and Conor, with a YouTube channel called 427 Motorsports, have a passion for the Citroën CX. They posted videos about CX development and how they were used as camera cars by the BBC.
Their latest video profiles Tissier and when the CX was introduced in 1974, how Tissier saw a niche market for a six-wheel high-speed delivery vehicle to transport items such as newspapers across the European continent.
It’s a really great video where they discuss how the Tissier CX came about, their use and risk involved in driving them, and how Tissier managed to keep them on the road for customers when those doing newspaper deliveries were doing upwards of 700,000 kms per year:
Wow, that was really interesting! What an amazing story. I only knew about the Tissier transporters (flat beds). This adds a whole new dimension. What a snapshot of that era!
