2025 CAC Spring Outing to Elora, St. Jacobs and Gord Linkletter’s Collection

By George Dyke…

Choosing a later Saturday in May rather than the first for Citroën Autoclub Canada’s 2025 Spring Outing seemed like an astute move as we felt that warmer weather and a few more weekends for members to get their Citroëns prepped for the drive would deliver a good turnout.

Indeed we got a crowd and although the weather was about 10 degrees less than normal, it was very pleasant for driving. With overcast cast skies and dry roads it proved to be ideal for photography. We had an Ami 6 Break, four 2CVs, a BX, a D-Special, a DS21, a GS, and a SM on the road trip. The DS21 was fully restored in Belgium, newly imported by Jeff Teerlinck and on it’s first outing. It ran flawlessly!

Once again we visited the familiar villages of Elora and St, Jacobs, with a visit we had not made since 2014 to Club member Gord Linkeltter’s car collection in Waterloo.

Aside from the 5 Citroëns that Gord owns; (a 1955 Traction Avant 15-6H [in another shop at the moment for some exhaust work], a 1974 2CV Truckette, a 1986 2CV6 Special, and a 1972 SM ), he has a most interesting collection that includes:

  • 1934 Buick mod. 68 Resto Mod
  • 1949 Allard M81 Drop Head Coupe
  • 1949 Cadillac Series 62 Sedanette
  • 1953 Studebaker Commander Starliner Coupe
  • 1960 Saab Mod 93F
  • 1962 Daimler Mod SP250
  • 1963 Corvair Convertible Monza Spyder Turbo
  • 1966 Corvair Corsa Coupe Turbo
  • 1971 Triumph Stag Resto Mod
  • 1991 Buick Reatta Coupe

The day started off for some of us in Milton where we arrived at 9:30 AM took a 45 minute back-road drive to CAC member Zikko Mallah’s home in Freelton where he and his wife Nancy welcomed everyone with a Continental breakfast at our “official” start time of 10:30 AM.

After socializing and a group photo op, the main portion of the drive commenced at 11:15. We followed a country roads route to Elora, stopping at Blown Away Glass Studio to watch a demonstration of artisan glass blowing.

From there we motored over to West Montrose for yet another photo op at the covered bridge. Also known as the “Kissing Bridge”, it is one of the oldest covered bridges in Canada.

The bridge is the only remaining historic covered bridge in Ontario and the second oldest surviving bridge in the Region of Waterloo.

From West Montrose we made a short trip over to the village of St, Jacobs stopping for lunch and allowing some time for folks who wanted to browse the quaint shops there.

And from St. Jacobs to was only a 20 minute jaunt to Waterloo to visit Gord Linkletter and ogle the cars in his collection.

Pierre-francois Raimbault joined us at Gord’s with his “monster 2CV” driving it over from the nearby town of St. Clements.

We featured an article about it last year in Citroënvie.

We wrapped up the day at Gord’s just after 4 PM with folks making their way back home with a new appreciation of the different Citroëns on the outing and some fun dialog with all the participants.

Thanks go out to Zikko and Nancy Mallah and Gord Linkletter and Fanny Gragor for hosting us on this wonderful outing.
