Decision Still to Come About Citroën Museum Location
We reported in July that two cities in France are vying for an opportunity to be the location of a new museum that will bring together Peugeot, Citroën and DS brand’s entire collection (more than 700 vehicles), in a single exhibition space that will also include a workshop, a store and an event area. And in that article we stated that a decision was to be made by the end of July.
We have an update to the above on both counts;
- There are 4 sites under consideration;
- Rennes
- Lohéac (in Ille-et-Vilaine — southwest of Rennes in Brittany)
- Poissy (about 25 kms northwest of Paris)
- Bièvres (in Lie-de-France, just southwest of Paris)
2. The association l’Aventure Peugeot Citroën DS must deliver its verdict in September as the lease for the present building in Aulnay-sous-Bois (northeast of Paris, near Charles De Gaulle Airport) ends in 2022.
The building is proposed to be between 15,000 and 20,000 square meters with, in addition to the Citroën collection, an auditorium, a training and co-working space, a boutique and a cultural centre.
The deputy of Ille-et-Vilaine, Gaël Le Bohec, who received the support of France’s Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs — Jean-Yves Le Drian, has campaigned for the new location to be in Lohéac because as he puts it; “accessibility is important”. The village of 657 inhabitants would very much like to accommodate a major automotive hotspot in France. It would provide 20 – 30 new jobs.
Le Bohec criticizes a possible installation of the project in the Parisian suburbs; “For those who will come in a vintage car, to places that we know will be deprived of a car, that would be a shame.”
