Citroënvie member Patrick Lublink in Kingston, Ontario is a true Canadian 2CV enthusiast. Now 67 years of age, Patrick has had a passion for the 2CV since he was a child — a neighbour of his had one. When he was 9 years old, he drew a picture of a 2CV which he has kept to this day.
He purchased a beautiful 2CV Charleston in Belgium in 1998 and had fully restored five years ago.
Patrick’s passion far exceeds just having a lovely 2CV to drive. He has a collection of 37 2CV models, the majority of them being either 1/18 or 1/17 scale size.
This also includes a handful of smaller ones including the original 2CV (called a TPV – short for très petite voiture) at 1/43 and a larger 2CV Charleston at 1/12 scale which sits with one of his wife’s doll houses.
In the early 1980s, serving as a non-commissioned officer with the RCAF, he was posted in Yellowknife where the 440 Squadron flew Twin Otter aircraft and that inspired him to create a one-off 2CV model with a RCAF theme.
He first disassembled a 1/18 2CV Charleston model, using paint stripper to remove its original colours.
He then applied a primer and spray painted it in RCAF Twin Otter yellow and red colours.
Once reassembled, he created the various decals on his computer, including the bolt of lighting, the registration number (803), the licence plates (front and back), the words “2CV Twin Otter”, the black strip on the hood and the RCAF logo. He then printed these on special decal paper and placed them on the model.
Here are 4 more pictures showing the “before” and “after”.
Truly a labour of love.
PATRICK … WHAT A GREAT STORY OF YOUR BOYHOOD PASSION FOR THE 2CV, AND TO THINK THAT I HAD THE PLEASURE OF A RIDE IN IT AND SEEING IT DURING THE STAGES OF RESTORATION. I AM EQUALLY IMPRESSED WITH YOUR PASSION FOR MILITARY CHAPLAINCY AND YOUR FAITH JOURNEY.
GOD BLESS
Thank you Ron for your comments. I appreciate your friendship. My 2CV is hibernating at the moment, but I look forward to the Spring when I can take her out again 🙂
