1978 Méhari on Auction at RM | Sotheby’s AmfAR Las Vegas

The amfAR Gala is a high-profile charity event organized by amfAR, The Foundation for AIDS Research, to raise funds for AIDS research and awareness. AmfAR, one of the leading global biomedical research organizations, has raised nearly $950 million in support of its mission and programs. Held annually in various locations, including Cannes and Las Vegas, the amfAR Gala features celebrity attendees, performances, and auctions. On November 21, 2025, a 1978 Méhari will be offered for sale at the Las Vegas AmfAR that is being staged at Wynn Las Vegas by RM | Sotheby’s amidst the excitement of the Grand Prix Race Week.

Estimated to sell for between $40,000 – $60,000 USD , the Méhari has been fully restored by Club Casssis in France and is being offered at no reserve! The listing states:

  • Powered by Citroën’s seminal 602-cc air-cooled flat-twin engine
  • Delightfully nautical finishes of Beige Hoggar over blue striped terrycloth trim
  • Innovative ABS plastic body with removable doors, fold-flat windscreen, and canvas roof for true open-air versatility
  • Equipped with the marque’s famed long-travel suspension for exceptional comfort and capability
  • Chassis No: 09CA5437

We wonder how this example came to be auctioned? Was it donated by a by a wealthy benefactor? Did it come from an estate sale? Or did Méhari Club Cassis see this as an opportunity to showcase an example of their restoration business? Whatever the reason, it will be interesting to see how high bidders are prepared to go to acquire this leisure-focused adventure vehicle based on the iconic 2CV.

Update — Nov. 22, 2025: The Méhari sold for $42,560 USD.
