Let’s help Mirek — A Citroën mechanic who never left anyone stranded on the road.

If you drive a 2CV and your travels have ever taken you through the Czech Republic, it is almost certain that you know Mirek. Or perhaps Mirek has repaired your car. Or maybe he patiently advised you over the phone at ten o’clock at night on what to check when your Duck broke down by the roadside.

Mirek has spent his life helping others. He is a brilliant Czech mechanic who has helped many Citroën 2CV owners and was always there whenever someone needed help. And never—truly never—did he expect gratitude or extra payment for it. He simply helped. But now, he is the one who needs our help.

Mirek has been diagnosed with ALS, an incurable disease that has taken his strength to work. At the relatively young age of 59, Mirek must come to terms with the fact that he has only a limited number of months left. The hands that repaired hundreds of cars are gradually failing to obey him. His family is still burdened with the mortgage on the house where he and his wife, Hanka, raised their own, adopted, and fostered children.

That is why Citroën Bílina (the Czech Republic Citroën Club) has launched a fundraising campaign to help Mirek pay off the mortgage.

They are asking the entire Citroën community to help by donating. The Club want to ensure his household has the funds for day-to-day living expenses—so Mirek can travel to medical appointments and pay for care that makes life with ALS easier, and so he can continue doing things like cooking for his family, just as he always has. If possible, they want the funds raised to cover the gap between his former earnings and his disability pension, which falls far short of the income he was accustomed to.. Every donation helps Mirek and his family.
