Citroënvie member John McBride from Sycamore, Illinois recently made an eBay purchase of an auto guide and wrote us to mention that he saw some interesting photographs of the reworking of the rear of the DS model occurring at the same time as the front was reworked to the third nose. He had not come across these before.
Robert Opron developed the studies (two per model) in late 1967. The caption states that one can see the future lines of the CX emerging, and that none of these ideas went to production because of the lack of financial means.
Certainly in the photo on left of DS rear end, you can see influence toward the CX and the GS!
Actually Operon did at least 4 studies (two per model) to redesign the tail of the DS. Here they are in higher resolution:
Note that all these models are equipped with the redesigned front which was first mooted in 1964 although not put into production until the 1968 model year.
Thanks for sending it along John.
