Kesha has released a new video for her song ”Joyride” with a car chase scene that features a Citroën SM.
The electro-pop/rap singer wrote the song to celebrate the settlement of a nearly a decade-long lawsuit involving her producer who she alleged drugged and raped her nine years earlier and psychologically tormented her throughout their working relationship.
The beginning of the video shows Kesha emerging from prison, having served a nine-years behind bars (referring to her mental torment). She proves to be a fierce and empowered woman, unafraid to take on challenges and fight for her freedom.
Now with a grudge, she confronts it by means by aggressively driving her red Jaguar XJ-SC on a southwest desert road trip where she is immediately pursued by a group of assassins. We get a rather campy chase with a stylized visual style that pays homage to Quentin Tarantino’s films, particularly the Kill Bill series.
The chase starts with a helicopter flying over a hill shooting at her in the Jaguar. Once she escapes the helicopter fire, she fights off gunfire from a 90s Aeronose Ford F-250 before seeing three more baddies approaching from behind in the SM. All the while cop cars are converging on the scene but not before gun fire erupts from Derk Delusional in an Austrian military Steyr-Punch Pinzgauer. Evading them all she manages to take a direct shot at more bad guys in an Aston Martin Lagonda.
It’s a rather disjointed video that cuts to a studio sequence of quick edits with Kesha posing on the Jaguar., then back to the chase where it ends with the impression that Kesha is going to ram into a Derk Delusional as he takes direct aim at her.
If nothing else, watch it for the nice SM:
