The new DS N°7 ticks ‘almost’ all the boxes for those wanting a compact EV or Hybrid SUV

DS Automobiles announced today that it is now taking orders for their DS N°7 — offering a blend of refinement, comfort, and technology that is being marketed as a first-class travel experience. Built in France, the DS N°7 boasts an impressive integration of advanced technology and an electric vehicle-specific ecosystem.

The reason we say it ticks “almost” all the boxes for those wanting a compact EV or Hybrid SUV is because DS Automobiles models (and Citroën for that matter) are not available to buyers in Canada or the USA. Perhaps DS N°7 features will make their way into a Jeep model over here, but if so it will be with an obvious loss of french flair.

Despite its unavailability in North America, what the DS N°7 offers is impressive in the context of a very competitive SUV market:

• DS N°7 is available to order from 43,900 € for the HYBRID and 46,990 € for the 100% electric E-TENSE.
• DS N°7 is available in four trim levels: N°7, PALLAS, ÉTOILE and LA PREMIÈRE, available with the E-TENSE FWD and E-TENSE FWD LONG RANGE powertrains and offering up to 740 km of range.

Inspired by the DS AERO SPORT LOUNGE concept and replacing DS Automobiles’ first creation DS 7, N°7 offers a high level of comfort and a reference in terms of habitability with an elegant and efficient design (0.26 Cx). DS N°7 features extended rear doors for easier access and a 30% increase in the surface area of the side windows. The optional panoramic roof has been enlarged by 40%. In-car, occupants enjoy generous legroom and excellent visibility to the outside.

Complete with a generous trunk (up to 560 litres depending on powertrain), DS N°7 has a two-position boot floor as standard, allowing for a flat surface when the rear seat’s 40/20/40 backrests are folded down. Even with the floor in the low position, the mode 3 cable supplied with the 100% electric E-TENSE versions can still be placed beneath the cargo area to free up space for luggage.

DS N°7 includes the brand’s new light signature, first seen on DS N°8, at the front: DS LIGHT BLADE with its characteristic V-shape that is recognizable from afar, is combined (in ÉTOILE and LA PREMIÈRE specifications) with the illuminated DS LUMINASCREEN grille. At the rear, the vertical DS LIGHT BLADE is also immediately identifiable from a distance, day and night. Their integration contributes to aerodynamic performance by directing the airflow cleanly.

Up to 375 hp and 740 km of range; motors and batteries made in France

DS N°7 features three 100% electric powertrains developing 230 hp, 245 hp and 350 hp, the latter coming with two motors and four-wheel drive. The electric motors for DS N°7 are produced in Trémery (57, France) by emotors, joint venture in which the Stellantis Group is a shareholder. All powertrains benefit from a one-off power boost that brings an additional 30 hp to the FWD version – i.e. 260 hp -, 35 hp to the FWD LONG RANGE version – i.e. 280 hp -, and 25 hp to the AWD LONG RANGE version, i.e. 375 hp.

DS N°7 is available with two battery capacities, including NMC (Nickel-Manganese-Cobalt) cells for the FWD Long Range which are produced in Billy-Berclau Douvrin (62, France). The first provides a usable capacity of 73.7 kWh and is fitted to DS N°7 FWD (230 hp). The second, with a usable capacity of 97.2 kWh, is available with the FWD LONG RANGE (245 hp) and AWD LONG RANGE (350 hp) versions. DS N°7 FWD LONG RANGE manages a combined range of 740 km (WLTP cycle) and can travel more than 450 km  on the motorway. The WLTP combined ranges of DS N°7 FWD Long Range and DS N°7 AWD Long Range reach 543 km and 679 km respectively.

The all-electric E-TENSE versions offer charging times in line with market standards. They benefit from a standard on-board charger of 7.4 kW to 11 kW (22 kW optional) and a fast-charging power of up to 160 kW allowing you to go from 20% to 80% charge in 27 minutes (97.2 kWh battery).

DS N°7 HYBRID offers a combined power of 145 hp and has the lowest CO₂ emissions among its direct competitors, between 120 and 126 g/km. Fuel consumption is therefore from 5.3 l/100 km. DS N°7 HYBRID combines a next-generation 1.2-litre Miller-cycle turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine with a 21 kW (28 hp) electric motor integrated directly into the six-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, and a 48V battery with a gross capacity of 0.9 kWh. This architecture allows driving up to 50% of the time in electric mode in the city, reducing consumption and emissions, while offering smoother and more responsive acceleration through the support of the electric motor.

The 100% electric E-TENSE versions offer charging times in line with market standards. They have a 7.4 kW to 11 kW in-car charger as standard (22 kW optional) and rapid charging power of up to 160 kW allowing you to go from 20% to 80% charge in 27 minutes (97.2 kWh battery).

DS N°7 features the Brand’s most advanced technology

Standard or available as an option depending on the version, DS Automobiles’ cutting-edge technology supports the driver in a more serene drive, lightening the mental load and enhancing the feeling of control. DS N°7 can be equipped with the following:

• DS PIXELVISION which combines adaptive headlights, pivoting main beams, cornering lighting and glare-free high beams. With a range of 400 metres, the system detects other road users, analyses their trajectory and adapts the light beam to avoid glare while ensuring optimal lighting. Highly reflective objects, such as road signs, are isolated from the beam, and multiple modes are automatically activated to adapt the lighting to the driving conditions: city, countryside, motorway, rain and fog.
•    DS DRIVE ASSIST 2.0 adds peace of mind for the driver with a level 2 semi-autonomous system and several other features for a smooth and natural driving experience in complete safety. It manages the distance to the vehicle in front and the positioning in the lane, and the semi-automatic lane change is now instantaneous. DS DRIVE ASSIST 2.0 also includes PREDICTIVE ACC (Adaptive Cruise Control), ACC Stop&Go and the ability to adapt speed according to the road profile and speed limits.
• DS IRIS SYSTEM 2.0 intuitive and personalisable human-machine interface (16-inch screen), integrates ChatGPT, and allows you to have a natural conversation on board DS N°7. This “all-in-one” architecture includes the audio system (6 speakers or 14 with the ELECTRA® 3D by FOCAL), four USB-C ports, Bluetooth® connectivity as well as wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
•    DS EXTENDED HEAD UP DISPLAY projects essential and non-intrusive information such as speed, navigation and traffic signs through the windscreen into the driver’s field of vision.
• DS NIGHT VISION improves seeing in the dark by detecting pedestrians and animals up to 300 meters in front of the car. Cyclists, pedestrians or animals are shown on the digital instrument cluster, first in yellow and then in red, to effectively alert the driver and increase safety when driving at night. DS N°7 is the only model in the segment to offer such a driver assistance system.
• FRAMELESS ELECTROCHROMIC INTERIOR REARVIEW MIRROR WITH DUAL-VIEW FUNCTION: using the rear-view mirror as a screen, via a wide-angle camera for providing optimised rear visibility, regardless of traffic or light conditions.

An electric vehicle-specific ecosystem

The 100% electric E-TENSE versions enjoy special features such as in-car EV Routing, which relies on the car’s static and dynamic data in real time to plan a trip by choosing the desired charge level on arrival. Battery pre-conditioning allows for more efficient charging (heat pump supplied from the PALLAS version). Journey planning with e-routes, via the MyDS app or PLUG&CHARGE functionality, provides a smooth and intuitive charging experience in connection with the Free2Move Charge ecosystem, which provides access to 800,000 charging points in Europe, including 135,000 rapid charging points. Finally, DS N°7 offers the V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) function, which makes it possible to power external electrical devices directly from its high-voltage battery with a special adapter plugged into the charging socket.

Range structure

DS N°7 is available in four trim levels: N°7, PALLAS, ÉTOILE, and the LA PREMIÈRE Collection.

The entry-level N°7, available in HYBRID, E-TENSE FWD and E-TENSE FWD LONG RANGE with 19-inch alloy wheels, has generous equipment including notably hands-free entry and start, rear and side parking assistance with reversing camera, a 3D Gloss Black grille and a 16-inch central touchscreen.

The PALLAS trim, also available in HYBRID, E-TENSE FWD and E-TENSE FWD LONG RANGE, adds equipment such as DS IRIS SYSTEM with connected 3D navigation, wireless Android Auto and Apple Carplay, the allocated wireless charger for smartphones, a front and rear parking assistance and reversing camera, the powered tailgate with “hands free” function, the acoustic laminated front side windows and the heated front seats (non-exhaustive list).

The ÉTOILE specification, available with all powertrains (19 or 20-inch alloy wheels), stands out with state-of-the-art high-tech equipment.
