Artcurial Auction results strong for 2CV

The Artcurial Auction on February 10 at Retromobile was mostly a good one for Citroëns.  We have listed the results of the 13 that were on the block below.

What’s most notable is that prices commanded for two original near zero mileage 2CVs were proportionally greater greater over the estimated selling price of a pristine 1935 Bugatti Type 57 Atalante découvrable.  The Bugatti had an estimated selling price of  between 1,000,000 – 1,500,000 € and sold for 2,331,200 € – 55% over estimate).  Both 2CV’s had maximum estimates of  30,000 € with one selling for 42,912 € and the other for 53,640 € – an average of 61% over estimate).   Even a restored early 1956 2CV with a maximum estimate of 25,000 € went for 32,184 € – a 29% overage.  Quite astounding!

Also incredible was the price paid for a 1965 DS 19 Cabriolet that needed at a total restoration; 101,320 €, about twice the price we thought it would go for.   If you have an authentic D cabrio squirreled away in virtually any condition, you are most likely sitting in a gold mine!

The one CX was overestimated and failed to meet expectations.  Unfortunately no one wanted the 1938 Traction B 11 L cabriolet with front end coachbuilt by Emile Tonneline.  The bargain was probably the 1937 Traction Avant type 11 faux cabriolet.
