Few video reviews of the Citroën SM properly explain its uniqueness and driving characteristics. This one titled “The Citroën SM is brimming with Citroën quirkiness but would I buy one?” is a welcome exception.

Harry Metcalfe is well-known in the automotive world, notably as the founder of the respected “evo” magazine. On his YouTube channel, Harry’s Garage, he shares his passion for cars and motorcycles by road-testing a wide variety of vehicles, from the latest supercars to classic cars. Viewers appreciate his real-world perspective and the depth of knowledge he brings from his extensive experience in the industry.

Beyond just driving, Harry Metcalfe is also a hands-on enthusiast with a significant personal collection of cars and bikes. He’s often involved in the restoration and maintenance of his vehicles, sharing these experiences with his audience.

The Harpin Company in the UK loaned Harry a fully restored (3,000 hours effort) SM and he provides an overview and road test that is well worth watching.

If there are any quibbles, and they are minor ones;

  • He refers to the SM’s steering wheel as being plastic. Actually is slightly padded and designed to be lightly gripped.
  • Harry rightly mentions that the DS was underpowered with it’s 4 cylinder engine but also states the same about the CX being under-powered. (He probably didn’t consider the Turbo and Turbo 2 versions that Citroën offered for the CX. They are plenty quick!)
  • And one point he might have made when talking about the air conditioning in the SM is that the restored car is fitted with a modern compressor replacing the original piston type and providing far less stress on the engine when it engages.

But enough discussing the video… Just watch it and experience Harry’s enthusiasm;
